Ask three useful questions
What do they choose to do in their free time? What do they already own or use regularly? Would they enjoy an object, an experience or a consumable gift? These questions help you avoid duplicate equipment and presents that create extra work.
Choose between useful, memorable and flexible
A useful gift solves a specific problem. A memorable gift reflects a shared moment. A flexible gift lets the recipient decide. None is automatically better: choose the approach that suits your relationship and how confident you are about their preferences.
Plan the finishing touches
Include a receipt when appropriate, check delivery time and write a personal card. Our Christmas, Valentine, gift-card and greeting-card guides offer examples for different situations. There is no need to buy more simply to make a gift look impressive.
